Kollywood’s crazy over Rajini hits

The success of Billa 2007 has created a new trend in Kollywood. The
industry seems to be reeling under the fever of remaking superstar
Rajinikanth's old films. Quite a few filmmakers have registered many
titles of Rajini's old hits with the Producers' Council.

Around 30 such titles have been registered so far. With Billa
continuing its good run at box office, the fever is expected to get
intensified further.

However, it is not an easy job to catch up the producers of Rajini's
earlier film and get the rights to remake. But, as of now, Kollywood,
which is driven by sentiment rules, is busy registering the titles.

Rajni watches Don, likely to work with Larencce

Tamil superstar Rajnikant watched Don at the Four Frames preview theatre on Sunday evening. So, now the talk going around Chennai film circles according to our Tamil bureau is that he could in all probability be doing a film with Raghava Larencce as the director.

The film is likely to be made under the Kavitalaya banner, which happens to be his mentor, Balachander's banner. Panju Arunachalam is likely to co-produce the film.

Das, who had made Ghazini too is being considered to for directing Rajini's next. But if Lawrence manages to pull it off, that would be a huge achievement for Larencce as it would put him on a totally different pedestal in the south Indian film industry.

Rajni musings

2007 will go down as a landmark year for Rajnikanth as it once again ascertained the fact that he is still the emperor of Tamil box-office with his Sivaji. What is the superstar's next move? Will he start a new film in 2008? Recently he did a two day shoot for daughter Soundarya's animation film Sultan-The warrior in a Chennai studio. As usual it was a hush-hush affair, with hardly any details getting leaked out.
Meanwhile the grapevine has it that he has refused to play the character role of Ravana in a corporate companies Rs 120 crore mega epic film Ramayan to be produced in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, with the launch fixed on January 11, 2008. He was offered his market rate, but the actor's cryptic reply was- "I'm still playing the hero's role, and I have no interest in moving over to character roles."

It means clearly the 57-year old superstar will continue with his unique formula mass masala movies in Tamil. He wants to be the first super hero in Indian cinema who will never switch over to character roles and probably play the "Hero" till he fades away!

A source close to Rajnikanth pointed out: " At the end of the day it is how good you look on big screen. Age cannot wither away the Rajni magic; he still has terrific screen magnetism to attract the youth audiences some of them who were not born when he became a superstar in early 80's."

Action hero's worldwide survive more at the top than romantic actors. Arnold Schwarzenegger ruled Hollywood till the age of 60 and retired after he became governor of California. And now most popular action hero ever Sylvester Stallone at 63 is creating waves as his high-octane action adventure movie Rambo-4 is releasing big worldwide on January 25! If Stallone at 63 is still hot at the box-office, well Rajni is a Payyan at 57 and will continue to be the lord of Tamil cinema.

The latest buzz doing the rounds is that Rajnikanth will not have a release in 2008, but will start a new film towards the end of the year. His phenomenal success has been linked to his decision to do only one film in two years, which makes the audiences crave for him. Reliance Adlabs has confirmed that Sultan is likely to release only for Pongal 2009, as there is so much graphic and animation work in the film.

At the same time Sultan is an animation film using the stars face and his voice. So what about a full length mass Rajnikanth film? He has approved two scripts in principal one by veteran director K.S Ravi Kumar and the other by A.R Murgadoss. The superstar himself will take the final call soon on who among the two will get the green signal.

Singapore New Paper Birthday Reports

WHEN it comes to celebrating their favourite actor's birthday, nobody does it quite like Rajnikanth fans.

When the Tamil cinema superstar celebrated his 57th birthday on 12 Dec, his fans across the globe celebrated it in the only way they knew how - by going over the top.
 
Across Tamil Nadu, fans spent thousands of rupees holding special prayer sessions at temples and pouring litres of milk over cardboard standees of their idol.
 
Others offered prayers by pulling a golden chariot in the temple city of Kanchipuram, reported the Indian newspapers.
 
Others decided to spend their money making a 61m-long birthday banner.
Their efforts were filmed and posted on the video-sharing website, YouTube.
The banner was made up of Rajnikanth's film posters from his three decades in the South Indian movie business.
 
Some clubs screened eight Rajnikanth blockbusters at movie theatres in Chennai.
In countries like the US, Dubai and Malaysia, fans who are part of Rajinifans.com - a portal dedicated to the superstar- organised special concerts as part of the celebrations.
His die-hard fans take his birthday so seriously that they get seriously offended if anyone snubs their cinematic god.
 
Indian media reported that fans threw cow dung and mud at banners put up by the production company that made Rajnikanth's latest blockbuster, Sivaji - The Boss.

The reason? The company did not put up the customary television and newspaper advertisements to wish the star on his birthday.
 
Chennai-based fan TVSundaram told The New Paper that this was hardly surprising behaviour from Rajnikanth's devotees.
'It is their way of showing their love and loyalty to him,' said the 32-year-old graphic designer.
 
But he pointed out that these fans do not represent the majority.
 
CHARITABLE APPROACH
This year, some fans took a different approach with the celebrations.
'They were doing more charity work, like feeding the poor and organising charity events,' said Mr Sundaram.
 
Entertainment news website Indiaglitz reported that thousands of fans handed out free food, bought educational books and stationery for poor children and donated blood.
Some even donated water tanks to poor villages.
 
Said Mr Sundaram: 'Thalaivar (Big Boss) has always encouraged his fans through his films to do good to others.
 
'I think many fans are finally listening to him and deciding to do charity work instead of spending money on parties and banners.'
 
Rajnikanth, whose real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, has charmed millions by playing the street-smart anti-hero and rabble rouser.
 
His fans affectionately call him Thalaivar, after one of his film roles.
 
The former bus conductor and carpenter has made close to 200 films including Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam.
 
He is also the highest-paid actor in India with a salary of 160 million rupees ($6m) per film - more than Hindi cinema star, Shah Rukh Khan, who rakes in 80m rupees.
 
The Tamil cinema star even has fans in Japan who celebrated his birthday with an Indian meal and a screening of his films at a Tokyo movie theatre.
 
There are several blogs and an unofficial fan website in Japanese, which had about 10 birthday messages posted.
 
One fan said that the superstar's films gave him inspiration.
 
Rajnikanth is the first Tamil actor to have Japanese fans.
 
They call him Odori Maharajah (The Dancing Maharajah) after his 1995 film, Muthu Maharaja, which was a hit in Japan, earning more than US$3million ($4.5m).
 
But the man himself never celebrates his birthday in Chennai.
 
He flees the city to escape the annual hysteria that surrounds the day, instead spending it quietly with his family in Bangalore.
 
Fans are especially happy this year because his film Sivaji - The Boss is still showing in cinemas.
 
J Ramki co-founder of Rajinifans.com, told The Hindu: 'This birthday is special as Sivaji is set to complete 200 days in over 50 theatres in a week's time.'
 
Fans are also looking forward to next year

Rajinikanth gives Billa a miss

Billa, Ajith's most-awaited release and the most hyped film of the year, after Sivaji, is to be screened across 10 screens in Chennai.
 
The team had earlier planned to release the film today to coincide with the superstar's birthday but postponed it due to postproduction delays, to 14 December 2007.
 
Ajith was particular that Rajinikanth graces the function as he was dedicating the film to the superstar. However, much to his disappointment, Rajini had expressed his desire to visit Bangalore on his birthday and his inability to attend the premiere. It is common knowledge that Rajini, as a convention, has been celebrating his birthday away from Chennai for a long time now. Anyway, he had earlier seen the trailer and had lauded Ajith and director Vishnu Vardhan for doing a commendable job. The Billa team is gung ho on receiving compliments from the superstar himself.
 
The team is so particular that no information about the movie is released in the media that they have gone ahead and even canceled the premieres that were to be held today under Ajith's request to the producers and directors as he wanted his fans, to whom he bestows all his success, to watch the movie first. A noble gesture indeed very much in the lines of the superstar himself.

Why boss prefers Bengaluru on birthdays

Thousands of fans returned disappointed from his Chennai home as Rajnikanth decided to spend his birthday in Bengaluru
 
It was a joyous occasion yesterday for all Rajnikanth fans across the country. Fresh after the success of his film ‘Sivaji-The Boss’, there seems to be no end to his soaring popularity graph. The south Superstar turned 57 yesterday and as expected thousands of fans gathered outside his bungalow in Chennai to grab a glimpse of their very own Rajni. But all of them had to return disappointed. This time over, the demi-God chose his family, over his fans and spent his birthday with his wife Latha and daughters Aishwarya and Saundarya in Bengaluru.
 
“We wish we could see our Rajni sir” a heart-broken fan was overheard saying. Says a source from Chennai, “He usually prefers to stay out of Chennai on his birthday, because it is absolute mayhem here. Though, he was in Chennai last year, this time he opted to be with his daughters at his residence in Bengaluru.”
 
With success of his last film ‘Sivaji-The Boss’, it seems that his admirers have almost doubled. Adds the source, “There was an unusually large crowd waiting to greet him yesterday morning near his house and the number of people were way more than usual.”
However, even if Rajnikanth is used to the crowd, the prime reason he prefers to stay away is the fear of political issues cropping up.
 
Says the source, “A lot of politicians get insecure with the sheer number of people who turn up on his birthday, and he obviously doesn’t want to deal with any problematic situations then.”But how exactly did he celebrate his birthday?
 
“He keeps it as a very low key affair. Usually there are a lot of phone-calls on the day which he makes sure to return.”
 
The actor is now on a break before he resumes shooting for his daughter Soundarya’s first animaton film ‘Sultan: The Warrior’.

When i sit to compose this mail, my nerves are so very excited, i could feel my heart beat is also dancing, my focus is total, i am utmost happy..... All credits for this goes to the man about whom i am typing?.. RAJINIKANTH?. " pera ketta udaney chumma santhosham thlaiku eruthu illa".
 
I wanted to share my thoughts about the film Shivaji right from the date of its release, but somehow it got delayed. A film which has opened the international market for tamizh film industry in a big way. Released in every corner of the world, where even hindi films were not released. Not only is the amount of people who has seen this film is a record, but also the amount of times some people has seen this film repeatedly is also a record. Just for one name if there can be such a big success story then it can and only be RAJINI ( I am not by any way undermining any other person(s) who made this epic movie). History of tamizh film industry will document this film as a milestone in all manners.
 
In one of the interviews with the film's heroine Shriya, she had the following to express about Rajini
 
 "very very simple man, you won't believe that he is a Super Star? during breaks you will see him sleeping in the shadow of the van?. When few technicians (she did not name them) and artists are asking for 5 star hotel accommodation, he just stayed in small rooms of lodges also"?.
 
What an example of simplicity this man has displayed.
 
The traits he posses are astonishing. One of the reply to my last years mail by my friend Upilli said the greatest asset of Rajinikanth are his intangibles ? Very Punctual, Very Disciplined and Committed to the task. I endorse and share it with you. Probably not being as punctual as he is, I understand how much being in time will add value to you.
 
A person whose eyes when I look I see clarity and honesty. A person who says that he is still a seeker.  A voracious reader. Firm believer of the almighty?.. the list will go on and on?..
 
Super Star is a small title for this man, in fact he made the title to sparkle a lot.
 
I pray for his health and happiness. I believe that he has contributed a lot personally to me and generally to many.
 
Believe me I have never seen him in person, but the magnetic radiation I get towards him is incredible. I don't know what takes me to him?. Few say I am a fanatic, few say I am crazy, few say I am blind, etc etc, it can be anything. But in a world where happiness is sought, if I am provided with that by a person who is in no way related to me, then I believe the other person has a unique and absolute power. Remember happiness not only for me but for many.
 
From a 2 year old baby to the oldest he attracts. My friend's daughter harshita who is just 4 years old nowadays tells even to her mother cooooooooool? .. One other friend of mine who is working in a MNC investment banking company in Banglore shared how her entire office including foreigners went and enjoyed Rajini in Shivaji. She further said that her boss called colleagues in U S and shared his experience of watching Rajini, insisted them to watch too.
 
I know I am taking a longer time, but for this person we can spend. AVM Saravanan in his recent article has stated one more greatness of Rajini. He said
"We made Shivaji by getting huge loans from financial institutions which we were able to pay back within 15 days of the movie release, knowing that we had got loans for making this movie, Rajini stopped with just advance money of Rs 1,000?. Rajini said to me?. Neenga kadan vangi enakku kuduka vendam, padam vitha udaney kudunga"

Rajni set for quiet birthday

New Delhi (PTI): With his latest film 'Sivaji- The Boss' still rocking the box office even six months after its release, this birthday could be a special one for Tamil superstar Rajinikanth who turns 57 on Wednesday.
While fans across the state are gearing up to celebrate their 'Thalaivar's' (leader) birthday, the star is set to go into "hiding".
"Rajini sir, in all probability, won't be in town this year too. Usually, he doesn't meet his fans on his birthday. It will be no different this year," a source close to the actor said.
However, his fans have plans to celebrate the day in a grand manner. "This birthday is special for both our 'Thalaivar' and us as 'Sivaji' is set to complete 200 days in over 50 theatres in a week's time. So, we have planned to celebrate the day in a great way," said J Ramki, co-founder of Rajinifans.com, a portal dedicated to fans of the superstar.
He said the site would carry out many welfare activities around the world. "We will organise a grand function and a music nite to celebrate Rajini's birthday in Dubai and Malaysia, where there is a sizeable chunk of Tamil population."
Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, fan clubs will celebrate the day by distributing sweets, performing special prayers at temples and churches and undertaking various philanthropic activities.
In Chennai too, the fans are set to start the day by performing poojas at temples, donating blood and providing food to orphanages in the city.
"We have planned to give three meals to all the students of an orphanage in Anna Nagar tomorrow on the occasion of Rajnikanth's birthday and most of the fans would donate their blood," Ramki said.
Rajinifans.com has also decided to provide water tanks to four schools in Courtalam in Tenkasi district.
Rajnikanth, who has a huge fan following across south India, was introduced to the silver screen by veteran director K Balachander in 1975 through "Apoorva Raagangal", in which he played the role of a cancer patient.
The movie which gave Rajnikanth a wide recognition was "Moondru Mudichu" (1976), where he played the role of a cruel womaniser and continued to do negative roles in films like "16 Vayadhinile" and "Gayatri".
It was in 1977 that the actor first played a positive role in "Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri", as a villain in the first-half and a 'good' person in its latter half when he accepts a woman with a child abandoned by her lover.
The actor made his first political statement when he openly announced his support to the Congress after meeting the then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao.
When late Congress leader G K Moopanar split from the Congress, formed Tamil Maanila Congress, and signed a poll pact with DMK, Rajnikanth announced his "full-fledged" support to the front and campaigned for it.
He also courted controversies during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections when he opposed PMK's "violence" and announced his support to the AIADMK-BJP combine quoting the saffron partys support to interlinking of rivers as the reason for his decision.
But, in 2002, his much-awaited 'Baba' bombed at the box office. Immediately, he bounced back in his next film "Chandramukhi", a remake of Malayalam blockbuster 'Manichitrathazu' that did well at the box office.
But, the actor's critics say he never stepped out of his trademark style, punch dialogues and do challenging roles like his long-time friend Kamal Hassan.
Rajinikanth, who has acted in more than 170 films, including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, has been honoured with many awards such as Filmfare, Tamil Nadu State Government Awards and Cinema Express.
After the film's success, the actor's career graph went on an upswing and Rajinikanth started doing more positive roles as the audience accepted him as a "star".
In the 1980s, the actor adapted himself to do more and more action oriented family entertainers like "Velaikaran", "Manidhan", "Dharmathin Thalaivan", "Siva" and "Mr Bharath".
Almost all his films in the 1990s were hugely successful, thanks to hard hitting dialogues on the society, a must in Rajini movies, which kept the audience guessing whether the actor will make a foray into politics.
From "Apoorva Raagangal" to his latest film "Sivaji", Rajinikanth has never compromised in his style and dialogues -- traits with which people have always identified him.

I have been receiving calls from our members and some of my friends, who eagerly enquire about the coverstory of Kumudam Reporter which has hit the stands yesterday.

Yesterday Kumudam reporter - a biweekly - which has hit the shops - carry a cover story on "Superstar's Political Preparation"
 
What Reporter (reels) says?.

The article says that Superstar is gearing up for political entry silently and he is now collecting the statistical datas of Tamil Nadu's electoral verdicts since 1950 and is recording them in a computer with help of a software engineer and also he is meeting regularly the local fans club presidents in mandapam nowadays. And surely - he is to announce his political plans soon.

And guess what - Kapsa Viktan - sorry Junior Vikatan too has carried a similar story like this.
 
But do you know the reality?
Earlier our All India fan club had its office in Raghavendra Mandapam. Now that too has gone and presently all fan club activities are being taken from Sathy sir's home alone. We don't have office too now. In this situation, it is very very very funny to think about politics.
 
Expectations vs disappointments
Am opening this because I feel that our members should be free from expectations in any form. Despite all misbeliefs about Superstar's political entry if he comes surely I would be happy. But I am ready to accept anything.

 Though nice to read the article in Kumudam Reporter ? what I feel is it is original or  special asusual or  birthday halwa to all fans. So, please don't take such stories so serious and build your expectations.
 
How big sin it is ? to raise one's expectations and later disappointing them?
When these bi-weeklies going to realize it?

Note1: What I feel is: people would get irritated by seeing such stories in any form. They would feel happy ONLY when they see ? "Rajini has plunged into politics and has announced party.He has announced his plans " rather than these varaar, varaarar, varaporaar, Rajini rasigargaludan aalosanai etc etc Fans too have now familiarized to such stories and started taking them lightly without any serious thinking.
 
Note 2: Raj TV has placed giant size greeting card to wish Superstar's birthday in Raj Video Vision, Mount Road ? public and fans can sign at that card. Am going to sign in a day or two. In other places too it has been placed. Watch Raj Tv for more info?..

Competition with Rajni Kanth's 'Sivaji'

Producer Oscar Ravichandran is in a spirit of competition with Rajni Kanth's 'Sivaji'. He wishes to sell his film 'Dasavataram' at least for 1 Rupee more than that of Sivaji. Even Kamal Hasan's camp is wishing to see that the film 'Dasavataram' sells out at hugest price ever known in the history of Kollywood. But as per trade analysts, the craze of Kamal Hasan cannot be equaled to that of Rajni Kanth. Entire national media covered the news about the release of Rajni's 'Sivaji'. But such coverage cannot be expected to Kamal Hasan, they say.

When Rajni was Billa

There is a new Billa in town. And he's all set to unleash his power on December 14.
Yes, Ajith Kumar's Billa is all set to explode on the big screen. This Tamil film is a remake of the 1980s Bollywood blockbuster Don, which subsequently spawned a Tamil version, Billa starring Rajnikanth.
 
And as we get ready for Ajith's Billa, here's a recap of the 'original' released 27 years ago.
The year 1980 was indeed a turning point in Rajnikanth's, personal as well as professional life. The Rajnikanth-Sripriya starrer Billa released in 1980 was a watershed in his career (1980 was also the year Rajni met Latha who became his wife and self-confessedly a solid anchor in his life).
 
In Billa, Rajnikanth enacted the role immortalised by Amitabh Bachchan in Don, while Sripriya reprised Zeenat Aman's role. The Tamil film audience simply lapped up the film which was mainly due to Rajni's charisma.
 
M S Viswanathan's music, especially the title track, My name is Billa. powerfully rendered by S P Balasubramaniam, was another highlight of the film.
 
Billa was directed by R Krishnamurthy (who later came to be known as 'Billa' Krishnamurthy) and produced by thespian producer-director-actor K Balaji who also did one of the most significant roles in the film -- that of DSP Alexander.
 
It was a dual role by Rajni -- first as a mafia-don who gets knocked off in a police encounter and then as an effeminate street dancer, village bumpkin Billa lookalike, Rajappa.
 
DSP Alexander, the only person aware of Billa's death keeps it under wraps and persuades Rajappa to impersonate and infiltrate into the Mafia gang as the Don. The aim was to reach their kingpin and bust the gang. Balaji was impressive in underplaying the role of DSP.
 
Major Sunderrajan and AVM Rajan were also in the cast, the former as the Interpol officer Gokulnath and the latter as Police Officer Varma.
 
Comparisons are odious. If Rajnikanth was his stylish best, the bulky and buxom Sripriya in Deepa's role was not a patch on Zeenath Aman, either in the looks department (made worse by garish make-up) or histrionic talent.
 
Comedian, villain cum character artist of yesteryears, late Thengai Srinivasan reprised veteran actor Pran's role (in Don) in Billa -- that of JJ, an erstwhile gang member. There was hardly any trace of refinement in Thengai Srinivasan's performance bogged down by overacting and exaggerated mannerisms.
 
Rajnikanth, Balaji and to some extent Major Sunderrajan were the only actors who deserved any brownie points in the histrionics department in Billa.
 
Billa's stupendous success was too much for Rajni. He even contemplated bidding farewell to the celluloid world. But thanks to good counselling by his guru and mentor K Balachander and colleagues like Kamal Hasaan, better sense prevailed.
 
Billa introduced a new genre of Rajni films, a mixture of comedy and action. With the phenomenal success of Billa, Rajnikanth's fame and remuneration skyrocketed. The film kicked off the most productive phase of his career and promoted him to the superstar bracket. It was also the harbinger of many of his superhits that followed like Pokkiri Raja, Thanikkatturaja, Annamalai, Yejaman, Muthu, Basha, Padayappa etc.

Soundarya plans another Rajni special

There will be more Rajni show from his daughter Soundarya. After completing the animation film titled 'Sultan The Warrior', the creative young girl of Super Star plans to bring out a special DVD on her father.
 
The DVD will be a compilation of selected scenes from Rajnikanth's movies with voice over. The DVD will feature the best of Rajni and would be a delight to Rajni fans. The DVD, which is expected to map the travel of the star through his films, will sure be a collectors' item.
Soundarya will start the work for this DVD once she wraps up her current project, 'Sultan The Warrior'.

Sivaji still houseful at PVR Theater, Bangalore

Sivaji is going steady & strong in PVR bangalore.

Even now getting the ticket for Weekend is not possible.

I was planning to watch it this weekend for 4th time. But to my disappointment & happiness, the SHOW is SOLD-OUT. What an achievement by BOSS.

Even some of the Diwali movies(don't want to name them) which has been released in PVR has been either removed or tickets available easily.

Even SRK's much hyped Om Shanti Om, you can get tickets. But not for BOSS.
His earlier movie Chak-De-India which released after BOSS has been removed last week.

What an achievement by BOSS?

Rajini getting ready to celebrate

Rajinikanth is geared up to celebrate the victory of his latest film, Sivaji. It is noteworthy that the 100th day celebration of this movie was a low-key event. AVM is known for celebrating such hits with a grand function.

This being their biggest production till date and ending up as one of the year’s biggest grosser,

the producers now intend celebrating its silver jubilee, 175th day function with a grand ceremony. According to our sources, AVM, the production giant, plans to felicitate all members of the cast and crew in this function. Superstar's initiatives for younger generation

Hi friends,

There are so many persons in many industries who have conquered
their respective high positions.

But they have more or less equal competitors who will give much
fight to attain their positions.

Some are really exceptional that they can not be beaten in any way
and they used to retain the same number one position for quiet a
long time.

One of the Great example in Tamil Cinema Industry is none other than
our beloved Super Star.

He entered the industry in an humble way with a small role. After
that step by step he has developed and shaped his career to this
numero uno position which can not be imagined by any other person.

In his first decade he had stiff competition from co-stars and in
his second decade he has attained the glorious status of undoubtful
Superstardom. In the third and present decade He is in a position
where not even single co star can reach his level. The gap between
first and second is too vast and everbody gave up thinking of
nearing him.

I would like to remember an article in a weekly (Devi - i think)
about the salaries of the then famous actors of Tamil Industry. They
listed the number two Kamalhasan to some other actor at number ten
position and they did not list Rajini. But in the very last line
they mentioned that Rajini's salary was the sum of all other Nine
Actors.....

What a great achievement of a Bus Conductor? Once he told that he
wanted only a Scooter and a small bedroom flat while entering the
field. But his journey of victory never ended and that too without a
single loss to anybody.

I can compare Rajini with Reliance Ambani who has started his life
as a petrol bunk employee who became the owner of a Petroleum
Company.

Rajini knows the pain of loss, poverty and struggle in coming up in
the life.. Thats why he never forgets his past and always want to be
humble..

So he is always positive and praises everyone who wants to come up..

I dont know whether anybody encouraged him in his earlier stages as
he does to others these days..

Yesteryear heroes seldom give support to their juniors.

Rajini respects both seniors and his juniors. He wanted to give
importance to Shivaji, Jaishankar, Ravichandran, Vijayakumar in his
movies while working together.

He accepts that Superstar is a not only a title and it is a position
like Chief Minister or Minister. With his humbleness, he once told
that anybody like Vikram, Vijay, Ajith, Surya can become Superstar
if they work hard and give continuous success.. I dont know any of
Rajini's Seniors has openly accepted this.

He happily agrees to advertise for any good film with younger
generation and many films tasted success with his advertisements and
positive opinions on the posters.

After the success of the films also he used to aplaud the concerned
teams wholeheartedly in the media.

Vijay Starrer Tamilan, Vikram's Saami, Chennai 600 028, Satyaraj's
Periyar(?), Now Ajith's Billa are some of the examples.

Though many tried to mock, imitate, copy him, he never mind any
wrong things done by them and always positive towards them.

Vijay is imitating Rajini in many ways and sometimes overdoszing
also.

In Vikram's Dhool - a scene of a politician's fast towards cauveri
issue mocked Rajini.

Ajith many times in interviews talked too much about thalaivar.

Satyaraj has made worse comments in his movies many times.

But Thalaivar not only forgives but forget everything and always a
role model to them...

Let everybody in the cine industry follow Superstar's magnanimity
and taste the success in the right way.

FIR on 'Sultan, the Warrior'!

" 'Sultan, The Warrior would be hundred times bigger than 'Sivaji: The Boss' ", says Soundarya Rajnikanth, daughter of super star Rajinikanth.
 
Soundarya, who is wielding the megaphone for the animation film ‘Sultan, The Warrior’ is quite confident about her venture. “Being a great fan of my father, I am shaping up his character in such a way to satisfy the fan inside me. The film will surely lure the masses”.

Sivaji: Still the boss!

Sivaji: Still the boss! The blockbuster of the year, the film that created cinematic history Sivaji
celebrates 150 days today.

The film did extremely well in not only South India but in non-Tamil speaking
centres like Mumbai and Delhi. And that was not all, the success transcended
borders. The film had a fantastic response in countries like USA, Malaysia, Sri
Lanka, Singapore where it crossed 100 days, a rarity for any Indian film.

Superstar Rajni as Sivaji mesmerised the audience with his persona and his

Thalaivar watches Billa

Remake of superstar's Billa with Ajith as hero has raised a lot of expectations in the industry and the stills which were out recently divulged a highly stylish and trendy feel. Though the film was expected to be a Deepavali bonanza, its release got postponed due to some pending post-production work.

Super star has been showing keen interest in the movie ever since it was announced as he blessed Ajith and the crew when they went to meet him personally. His encouragement was always evident but was further reiterated when he expressed his desire to watch the one and half minute trailer of the film. A special show was arranged for him at the A V M studios as Rajinikanth watched the same accompanied by producer A V M Saravanan. He was highly impressed by the grandiose of the trailer and conveyed to director Vishnuvardhan that Ajith looks dashing all through. Meanwhile, insiders reveal that the audio launch of Billa may be a simple function at super star's residence and that he would release the first copy.

Crying Babies with Ulterior Motive

Cinema production/distribution/exhibition business is as risky or
rewarding as any other business.  May be we can call it more riskier
than other businesses because of the complete lack of knowledge
about customer preferences but that is more than compensated by the
fact that it can also yield disproportionately high rewards unlike
other businesses.

Having said this, I don't think the people involved here
i.e. "Unnamed distributors of Sivaji", who are crying about the loss
incurred in Sivaji business have ignorantly got into it.  So, why
are they now crying about the loss incurred in Sivaji AFTER IT HAS
RUN FOR MORE THAN 150 DAYS?  If there is loss, the whole trade/
industry would have got to know the same within a couple of weeks of
its release.  So, why have they not talked about the loss "then" but
are crying "now"?

I feel there is something more to this crying than that meets the
eye.  They are just using JV to shield their identity & JV also is
seeing an increase in their circulation due to the involvement of
the magic name of Rajini & had jumped at it.

If you all remember, at the time of Baba's release, Rajini didn't
wait for a long time to CALL THE DISTRIBUTORS and discuss with each
of them about the business & compensate them accordingly.  So, if
Sivaji's loss is a fact, why these "crying babies" are not directly
approaching Rajini or AVM now, instead of going to the press & that
too shamelessly as ghosts?

I feel the reasons could be two fold:

1.  Assuming for a moment that they have really incurred loss in
Sivaji, they know AVM is a tough business negotiator to get any
refund & even a single paisa will not come from them unlike as it
happened in the case of Baba.

I'm sure all of you remember how tough AVM was while selling the
rights of Sivaji & how adamantly they stuck onto their rates per
territory.  So, the "crying babies" could be trying to put pressure
on Rajini by coming out openly thru press.  Their expectation is
that Rajini, due to the public pressure, in turn, will talk to AVM
to hear their grievances & may be to partly compensate.

Friends, all this is under the ASSUMPTION that Sivaji is a loss to
these crying babies, which I feel is NOT the case.  This fact is
known to film trade also.  Knowing Thalaivar, I'm sure, he will
simply turn a "deaf ear" to these "unnamed crying babies".  Though
we may not know who these crying babies are, AVM & Rajini may very
well know them based on their decades of experience in the industry
as well through their negotiation experience while selling Sivaji
rights in May/June 07.

According to me, these crying babies are trying to throw a stone at
a mango tree.  If a mango falls its good for them; if it doesn't
fall, its not going to affect them.  But, they are forgetting the
fact that they are very much standing under the mango tree &
throwing the stone & the stone is going to fall on their own head in
the end.

2.  The other, more probable reason, could be this.  If Sivaji has
been a profitable venture in all territories, which the whole trade
& the whole world knows as a fact, why then are these people
"crying" now about loss?  I feel it is due to the FEAR OF INCOME TAX
DEPARTMENT.

As all of us know, Sivaji's distribution rights were purchased for
unbelievably record-high prices in each & every territory.  It has
also come in press that AVM insisted on the entire value to be in
white.  Also, the whole world, including the IT officials, know that
Sivaji had a tremondous opening as well a dream run in maximum
number of theatres in all territories & was hugely popular not only
in TN but all over the globe, wherever it was released.  It is also
an OPEN SECRET that most of the theatres in TN have UNOFFICIALLY
HIKED THEIR TICKET PRICES FOR SIVAJI EVEN UPTO 100 DAYS, even as the
state Govt. turned a blind eye to it for its own reasons.

So, we have a situation wherein the "crying babies" are caught in a
quandary as below:

i.  First they have to show the source of their moeny to acquire the
distribution rights of Sivaji by paying such exhorbitant rates.

ii.  At the same time, they will only be able to show the official
ticket rate revenue which will be much much less than what they have
actually collected at the box office.  This means that the
difference in revenue collected over the official ticket rates
CANNOT BE SHOWN TO IT DEPT AS IT IS BLACK MONEY.  In this scenario,
simple arithmatic will obviously show them to have incurred losses.

But, IT Dept. people are not fools.  They will ask the "crying
babies" a basic question - Will any sensible businessman acquire the
rights of a movie by paying an exhorbitant price when he knows fully
well that he needs to run the film for some 200 days to break-even,
particularly when the govt has reduced the ticket rates.

I have a feeling that these "babies", would not have thought through
these inticate points in their anxiety to somehow acquire Sivaji
rights to make a killing & also would not have factored in the
intelligence machinery of IT Dept. which has become very smart, of
late.

So, now, in order to get out of a tricky legal quagmire which they
have got themselves into, they are now trying to create an ALIBI
through such unanimous "loss" statements in the press & trying to
hoodwink a possible IT inquiry on them.  But, thess kind of childish
actions are not going to wash in front of a proper IT inquiry & will
not lead them anywhere.  Nowadays, it is very very tough &
complicated (but not impossible), to escape from any tax - leave
alone income tax.  So, its a question of time before the law catches
up with anyone, if he is found on the wring side of it.  Of course,
if they have connections at the right places, it could be
different.  But, in such a case, they need not have enacted
this "loss" drama in front of an eager media.

So, Friends, in view of the foregoing, I feel that we, Rajini fans,
do not have to get perturbed with these kind of loss reports coming
in a magazine known for its antipathy towards Thalaivar & that too
based on statements given by people who are talking like ghosts.

Lets IGNORE this and await Sivaji's march towards its 200th Day run
on 31st of December, 2007.

Sivaji Vs Saawaria - A Barometer based on CARometer!

Soon after the release of Thalaivar's latest blockbuster "Sivaji -
The Boss", I had written a post wondering the way Boss was
attracting audiences even during NIGHT SHOWS ON WEEK DAYS, which
were running to House Full shows in Bangalore's Cauvery Theatre
situated in a posh locality. This I had observed when I used to
cross the Cauvery Theatre junction in my car while returning home
from work.

In that connection, I had also quoted my own real life experience of
facing severe traffic bottlenecks for days on end during the weeks
succeeding the release of Sivaji, because Cauvery Theatre is
situated bang at the corner of a busy traffic junction in Bangalore
and during the time between 8:45 pm and 9:15 pm huge crowds will
come out of the evening show & another huge crowd will be waiting to
enter the theatre complex for the night show. Because of the out-
coming & in-going cars, two wheelers & people, the already narrow
Bangalore-Bellary Highway, in which the theatre is situated, will
get severly clogged & it used to take anywhere between 20 to 30
minutes for me to cross that junction in my car at that time of the
night.

The reason I am recalling the above incident is, during the last two
days, I happen to cross the Cauvery theatre around 9 PM. Saawaria,
the much over-hyped Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed and Kapoor-clan
debuted film, is running in Cauvery as 3 shows since Diwali. But,
without any surprise to me, I could go thru the busy Cauvery
junction signal in the normal time of 2 to 3 minutes on both days.

I couldn't suppress my smile when I crossed Cauvery seeing the
couple of cars parked & just 2 or 3 people waiting in front of the
theatre - may be they are also trying to sell their tickets for
which there are no takers. In contrast, I was simply amazed with
the POWER & CHARISMA of Thalaivar, in attracting such a huge crowd
day in & night out for several weeks, in a non-Tamil speaking state
& city where at that time, protests were also organised against the
simultaneous screening of Sivaji in many screens.

The above comparison illustrates the difference between the REAL
POWER & MAGIC of The BOSS and "others" in attracting crowds to
theatres on ALL DAYS & ALL SHOWS.

I am sure, OSO, the other Bollywood release of Diwali, will also
meet the similar fate of Saawaria & will not be able to sustain its
opening. After all, Rajini is Rajini & all others are simplay that -
"others'.

‘Sivaji’ still shines!

Rajnikanth starrer ‘Sivaji â€" The Boss’ has rewritten the history of Tamil cinema. The magnum opus produced by AVM and directed by Shankar has managed to collect the maximum revenue among the movies released this year.
 
Starring Rajnikanth, Shreya, Vivek and Suman in prominent roles, ‘Sivaji - The Boss’ even found a place in UK Top 10 Movie List.
 
Interestingly, the AVM Production house has come forward to release Sivaji notebooks on Wednesday to capitalize on the movie's craze among people. The launch is being done to coincide with the completion of 150-days of the movie.

OSO may be the biggest grosser of the year, but SRK alone can't take
the credit for that. If someone says that OSO performance shows SRK's
power, then what they say about Chak De India's performance?

Rajini movie collection graph is always linear, always going upwards.
SRK's graph fluctuates, up and down.

See at the chart, Sivaji - The Boss is the lone south indian warrior
flighting against the bollywood. And who is the winner on Average with
just 12 screens?

Actually, there is no point in dicussing who is biggest indian star at
the moment in india as well as overseas.

No stylish hairdo, no dark glasses, and definitely no death defying stunts. "I want to act with Rajni", says Vijay.
 
Speaking at the audio launch of 'Onbathu Rupai Nottu', directed by Thangar Bachan.  The movie features Sathyaraj, Archana and Rohini in prominent roles, Vijay said, "I am a great fan of Sathyaraj. I love his satire on screen. I want to act with Sathyaraj and Rajnikanth. However if I act with eminent personalities like Rajnikanth and Sathyaraj, I would be lost in their screen presence. I wondered at Sathyaraj's acting performance in 'Periyar'. I was thrilled when I came to know that  it was nominated for the National award."
 
Vijay said that he would love to do an off-beat movie once in a couple of years. Directors Mani Ratnam , Bharathiraja, Parthiban, Seeman, Vasanth, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, actors Sathyaraj, Prabhudeva, Archana, lyricist Vairamuthu, music director Bharadwaj also spoke on the occasion.

Did Shankar failed to give quality movie for Rajini?

I want to tell u all that Our Expectations are too high.....None of
the Directors will satisfy us.... We by default expect Rajini as
Rajini and not as an actor...Even people also.

when Chandramuki is released, So many people said "The Movie is good
but its not like Rajini Film"...Likewise when Baba is experimented by
Rajini & Suresh Krishna People did not entertain much...

I recall one incident (Around the release of Uzaipali), When the
producers association imposed a big cut in the hike of heroes
salariies to the then top seven heroes (Rajini, Kamal,
Vijayakanth,Prabu,Satyaraj,Karthik & Sarathkumar)Rajini was the first
& only person to boldly question them. His famous dialogue
of "Naangallam Race Gudhirai (Race Horse) mathirai.. Odura gudirai
mela thana neenga panam kattreenga, gudirai odathunna kattvueengala?
en rate ithu, venumna edunga, illanna vittutunga. Neenga en sambalatha
athikarama kuraikka mudiyathu..."and his subsequent walk out from the
meeting was discussed in various circles. Even they have stopped
supporting Uzhaipali.. After that the matter was sorted out and they
have realised that Rajini has every right to decide on budget and his
salary. Even Sindhamani Murugesan in his recent interview tried to
clearly escape from that incident told that he was a scapgoat of some
other producers at that time.

i dont want to comment on other six actors capabilities in Box Office,
But regarding Rajini's films, the expectations are too high... If
Shankar has decided to shoot the movie in his own style and if the
film flopped, then can u imagine the volume of loss? Will AVM return
money as SS? Who will be responsible for the huge expenses for the
production? Everybody is having their unique style of film making..
Shankar focuses mainly on his Songs, Sets and Graphics from his very
first film.. It is his style... He has succeeded in that to 200%
level. He has voluntarially compromised his other segment of
creativity only to satisfy people like us and profit to all. Atlast he
has survived from our scoldings you know. If Shankar wanted to show
his supremacy over SS and gave SS some other experimental shape, the
risk is more to everybody from top most AVM to lower bottom of theatre
parking people.

It is an industry where Rajini film is the one and only festival with
maximum guarantee... Rajini is a single man industry who is worth a
quarterly budget of leading IT Company. Whoever in the process
calculates the risks and profits and it is like walking in a rope.
Hence SS & Shankar's thoughts are overdone by others expectations..

The Car fight Sequence, Shreya's look, Thee Thee Song and Graphics
everything is justified considering the Global marketing of the film..
When u expect to release the film for different regions all around the
world you have to do like this... you can not only rely on tamil
market. So Shankar did his best with Superstar which i was able to
realise only after a few days of release.

Thalaivar always wont experiment with others money....

Whenever he wants to do experiments, he will do with his own fund.

He produced Maaveran which touched Freedom Struggle & British
He Produced Valli for Film Institute New faces & Heroine Oriented
He produced Baba for his spiritual thoughts...

All the above are from his own fund and they did not give him best
returns... Even it doesnt matter to him.

So we salute his policy of doubling others money whoever involved in
his film..

When even he himself and shankar are ready to sacrifice their own
thirst for variety only to make others happy why should not we?
