K.R. Speaks about Maveeran Movie

Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.

Rajinikanth's popularity in Pune !

Sonna namba maatenga ,

I recently went to a 3 day interview in Pune Symbiosis College where students from all over the country came ( mainly Northies ) and that time in a seminar , EFX head was discussing about the digital effects implemented these days ( Krish , Sivaji etc ) ..

So when he uttered these words , the crowd ROARED like a lion ..

" Now , i will show you a song from a Rajnikanth movie " ...

And then he played Adhiradee !! ... I got up to salute thalaivar and i thought people would reprimand me for not behaving properly in a very FORMAL SERIOUS SEMINAR but to my surprise , the whole auditorium followed cue and they clapped like hell .

There were less than 1000 students there ( only 20 tamilians from what i know ) and majority pune ! And throughout the ADHIRADEE song , they kept clapping , screaming , shouting and went crazy !

There were 2 girls next to me who got up and blew kisses to the screen ! One of em was Bengali and other was from Mumbai

Sathyama i didn't know that our Superstar had this much of an impact in our country . In the same seminar , Hrithik , Shah Rukh , Amitabh were all spoken about but not one single person bothered . But when the words SUPERSTAR RAJNIKANTH was uttered .
SUMMA ADHIRICHU LA !!! ... I was so proud to be there and feel that moment !

Rajinikanth, his life story

CHENNAI: What do eye surgeons do during free time? Well, Dr. Gayathri Sreekanth decided to write the life story of one of her favourite actors, Rajinikanth.
Titled ‘The name is Rajinikanth’, this biographical sketch of the actor is in English and is being published by Om Books International. “Ours is a family of doctors. At one point, I really felt the need to do something totally different and decided to write a book, something I had been dreaming of doing,” she says. And she took the quirky interest rather seriously.
Interesting details
After meeting the actor’s wife, she went to Bangalore to meet the ‘super star’s childhood friends. “I met a whole lot of his friends … each of them had such interesting details about the actor.”
Later, she also met actors and others in the film industry to obtain more details about the actor.
After one year’s running about and interviews, she put together his story. “It is indeed very inspiring,” she says.
So didn’t all this disturb her practice? “Oh, yes, it did. My husband took care of all my patients during that one year,” she laughs.
Launch in March
Director K. Balachander has penned the forward for the book, while actor Kamal Haasan has given a message.
The book will be launched this March.

Superstar Vs Anbumani Vs Kids

In the recent editions of The Hindu, they have published two interesting stuff related to Superstar.
The first one says How tough it was tough to control kids when Superstar's name was mentioned and also his look alike appeared on the stage in a charity function organized by welfare association. The next, speaks about Sivaji's pan India success and also reveals that though many regional films hit the capital city after Sivaji no film could generate the euphoria that the Boss generated.
Finally, we have given the link of video. It's Superstar moving with Kuchelan team. A nice video and it yet another time ascertains how down to earth he is. Those who missed to watch the clip can view it.

Ash - Rajinikanth make it official! - Source: IBNLive.com

Aishwarya Rai has reportedly signed the prestigious Shankar film with Rajinikanth, tentatively called Robot.
Our sources insist, the deal was officially signed yesterday afternoon, around 3.30 pm. "The contract was sent to Janak (the Bachchan bungalow in suburban Mumbai) for the Bachchans' approval, and it was duly signed," says our source. But that's not all. Aishwarya Rai is allegedly charging a whopping Rs 1.5 cr for the film, which was initially meant to be a SRK and Deepika Padukone starrer. The amount, needless to say, will be some sort of a landmark, considering no Rajini heroine has ever commanded such an astronomical fee so far. Shriya Saran was allegedly paid Rs 30 lakh for Sivaji.
Meanwhile, there seems to be some controversy around the title of this film.

Rajini takes a break

Rajinikanth, after the tremendous success of Sivaji and the announcement of his twin projects is off to Himalayas to rejuvenate himself. It is a general practice of this spiritually inclined actor to take time off his busy schedule to visit different holy places.
Rajini
This time around, after accepting the Entertainer Award of 2007 from NDTV at Delhi, he has proceeded to the Himalayan Mountains on a pilgrimage tour. Kodambakkam sources further reveal that Rajini will reach the caves of his Guru Babaji for meditation and then visit Haridwar and Rishkesh. After completing this tour which would last for a couple of weeks, he would be back in Chennai to resume work for Kuselan.

Will Rajini & Shah Rukh come together?

The latest news down south is that Rajinikanth is all set to rule the world of animation as well. With “Sultan the warrior” under production, the actor’s daughter who also happens to be the director of this 3D film, has future plans as well. With sky being the only limit, Soundarya Rajinikanth plans to do a couple of 3D animated films. One of the sequels is planned to be for the numero uno Kamal Haasan himself.
Sultan The Warrior

She seems to have a one line idea, but wants to develop into a full fledged script before approaching the legend. Talking to reporters she said, “After animating my dad, it would be really interesting to animate Kamal uncle too. Hope I can develop a concrete script before approaching him",
Discussing her ongoing project ‘Sultan the warrior’ this talented youngster said that the movie will have all gimmicks, style and mannerisms very typical of a Rajinikanth film. This would feature the superstar in an all-different image but with his usual lingos and mannerisms.
Asked about her other projects, she further added, “We had recently seen Chak De India and Appa liked the movie a lot. Shah Rukh Khan was wonderful. After Sultan may be I'll try to do an animation involving Shah Rukh and my father together. It will be a bonanza for both their fans if something like that happens. Let’s hope both the Dons have a feast waiting for their fans.
And to sign off, do you know what the significance of the rudrakshamala around her neck is? It was gifted by her dad Rajinikanth himself. Hmm. Quite special.

Rajinikanth to play superstar in ‘Kuchelan’

CHENNAI: Films with friendship as the central theme are not new to actor Rajinikanth.
From ‘Annamalai’ to ‘Thalapathi,’ many of his earlier hits have highlighted friendship in interesting ways. Now, the actor will do one more for his mentor K.Balachander’s production company Kavithalaya. The film, tentatively titled, ‘Kuchelan,’ is to be produced by Kavithalaya and Sevan Arts in Tamil and in Telugu by Awani Dutt of Vyjanthi Movies. The story is based on the Malayalam hit ‘Katha Paryumbol,’ which was released in December.

It is the story of a friendship between a Superstar and a barber, played by actors Mamooty and Srinivasan respectively. In Tamil, the Super Star’s role would be played by Rajinikanth and barber’s role by actor Pasupathi. Director P.Vasu who did the remake of ‘Manichirathazu’ as ‘Chandramukhi’ will direct the film.

Mr. Vasu saw the Malayalam film on December 31. “Later I requested Rajinikanth to see it. He was literally floored by the film and wanted to do it in Tamil. We were looking at casting Meena as the female lead. We have closed in on Simran who missed the role in ‘Chandramukhi.’ We will start shooting the film in February and release it in June, 2008.”

Director K.Balachander said he has produced and directed eight films with Rajinikanth and ‘Kuchelan’ will be the 9th production.

Kuselan - Simran steps in & more infos!

Pasupathy is confirmed in Kuselan. Today i have seen Superstar's still with Pasupathy in Dinakaran and Hindu.

And Express too has come out with a good article on this. (In the article PVasu has mentioned the very mention of Superstar's name is enough for the movie to be sold beyond regional languages)

And guess what Simran would be pairing Pasupathy and a Bollywood heroine for Superstar.

Meantime, Jegapathy Babu too has been roped in for the project since it is produced in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously. (Adraaaaaaaaa......... adraaaaaaaaaaaa........... adraaaaaaaaaaaa)

Meanwhile reports say that Superstar has shaven off his beard to give pose for ad session stills of Kuselan.

‘Robot’ and Rajini: a flashback

Did you know that Rajini had agreed to act in ‘Robot’ long ago? Did you know that the project has come a full circle?
Here is a small flashback to recall the incident:
 View Rajnikanth Gallery
It was 2002 and it was the function held to launch Shankar’s ‘Boys’. Rajini attended the function as the chief guest. Shankar has arranged a demo session to reveal the talents of the boys of the ‘Boys’. Superstar enjoyed the event very much.

When Rajini came to the mike, he said that the news published in some magazines saying that Rajini and Shankar were coming together was true. “It is true. The name of the film is ‘Robot’. If I act in this movie directed by Shankar, it would run for 50 weeks.  But it requires 50 crore rupees and two years to make”, said Rajini in his speech.

The dream of Shankar and the desire of superstar have been realized after almost six years. The budget has been doubled and the expectations are manifold.

In the meantime, the film has been associated with too many big names including Kamal Haasan, Vikram, Ajith, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan. The movie has come a full circle with Rajini himself acting in the mega film.

Who should Rajni romance in Robot: Deepika or Ash?

Aishwarya Rai and Deepika Padukone
After a dream Hindi film debut with Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan [Images] in Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone [Images] may soon star opposite Tamil superstar Rajnikanth [Images] in Shankar's Robot.
According to sources, Deepika is being offered a huge sum to star in this Rs 100 crore venture. On the other hand, some people in Bollywood are advicing her against taking up the role because of the age difference between the 22-year-old actress and the 57-year-old megastar.
Another actress being strongly considered for the role is Aishwarya Rai [Images]. Ash had been considered for Shankar-Rajni's earlier venture, Sivaji: The Boss as well, but the deal fell through.
While speculation over the casting continues, who would you rather see Rajni romance: Deepika or Ash?

Chinese Watching Sivaji Film - Reports by Malaysian Paper

Overripe emotions? Over-the-top action sequences? An assault on the tear ducts? Indian movies are quite an experience.

For as long as I can remember, Indian movies have been a fixture in my life.
Sivaji, starring Rajinikanth as The Boss, broke box-office records everywhere it showed.
Overripe emotions? Over-the-top action sequences? An assault on the tear ducts? Indian movies are quite an experience.

When I was a wee lass, my mother and I would plant ourselves in front of the idiot box every Saturday afternoon, armed with a box of Kleenex, preparing for the sob-fest that would inevitably ensue, while Dad rolled his eyes in undisguised amusement.

So when Dad remarked one day: "Have you heard about the latest Indian movie?", I wasn't too surprised.

But his next words made me sit up.

"Sivaji has just broken all the box-office records. The news was splashed all over the Chinese papers."

From the fanfare and hoopla surrounding Sivaji, I had a feeling that it was more than just a movie – it sounded like history in the making.

"Shall we watch it for my birthday then?" I suggested.

My folks thought it was a grand, if somewhat unconventional, idea.
Then again, we are not your typical Chinese family, as Mum is fond of
pointing out. That very afternoon, the entire Wong family of three
trooped into the local TGV. At the doorway, the ticket collector
regarded me with a strange expression.

"Miss, are you sure you are at the right cinema?" he asked after a
pause.

I nodded absently, impatient to enter the hall. Somebody had told me
that watching an Indian movie at the cinema was a total experience –
apparently, the moviegoers would really get into the spirit of
things.

Young men would jump up and dance, and the audience would
collectively whoop during climactic scenes. While I could reel off an
entire list of Indian movie stars, I had never gone to the cinema to
watch an Indian movie before, so I had no idea whether he was pulling
my leg.

"Uh, this is an Indian movie," the lad at the door persisted,
emphasising the word Indian.

"Yes, yes, this is Sivaji The Boss, yes?" I repeated and sailed past
him, leading mum and dad into the cinema.

As I gingerly made my way down the aisle, I did a quick scan. As far
as my eyes could make out in the dim hall, we were the only Chinese
in the entire theatre, I realised with a start.

"You watching Tamil movie, ah?" the lady next to me asked. Even in
the dark, I could see her eyes were as big as saucers.

"You understand Tamil, ah?" my neighbour went on, wonderment in her
voice.

I looked at her, mouth twitching. I couldn't remember another time
when the audience was so . . . hospitable. Antonio was right – it WAS
turning out to be one unusual experience.

"No, but there are subtitles right?" I said hopefully.

She nodded vigorously.

"Yes, I think so. I hope you enjoy the movie. I heard it is very
good! I brought my whole family here," she said, pointing to the row
of progressively lower heads beside her.

The audience demographic had an extraordinarily high proportion of
families. Kids. Mums. Fathers. Teenage boys. Generations. In front of
my mother, I could identify a lady in a saree with salt-and-pepper
hair in a tight coil and quirky round spectacles.

A grandma, I thought with amazement. How many of my peers would even
think of bringing their parents to the movies, let alone their
grandma?

"When was the last time you and Dad watched a movie?" I whispered to
mum.

She wrinkled her nose. "Long time ago. We had gone to the one in
Parkson, but never been here before (Kinta City)."

I kept quiet, shamefaced. That was over a decade ago. We could all
learn a thing or two about spending quality time from these Indian
moviegoers, I thought, and made a mental to-do-note.

The movie kicked off promisingly with a rip-roaring tribute to The
Boss. It was clear from the outset, the lines were blurred between
the real boss and the celluloid boss. Both were adulated and treated
with the same reverence as a demi-god. Well, you certainly can't
accuse the Indians of not respecting their elders.

To my dismay, 15 minutes into the movie, and the subtitles abruptly
disappeared, as if the translator gave up halfway and thought, "Bah!
No other races are going to watch this anyway."

But if I had thought that the little linguistic hiccup would diminish
our enjoyment of the movie, I was mistaken.

In the grand tradition of all Indian melodramas, a blitzkrieg of eye
and ear candy flooded our senses. Sultry heroines sashayed and
shimmied with a sinuous grace that made Shakira look clumsy by
comparison. Whimsical phantasmagorical sets that seemed to have been
drawn from every colour in the palette had our eyes popping out and
mouths watering.

It was pure magic – an uncluttered storyline, unabashedly steeped in
family values, cast in a sweeping, exquisite landscape. It almost
dared you, with a wink and a saucy wiggle, to resist its infectious
joyfulness and big, big heart.

And as the audience booed and cried and laughed on cue, we the Wongs
went along merrily, never mind if we couldn't understand a word of
the rapidfire Tamil that passed through the characters' lips.

Post-Sivaji, I conducted a status check and asked My Boss outside the
theatre: "So Dad, nice or not the movie?"

"Ok-lah," he grunted. "Over the top but can-lah."

Dad is not a verbose man, so this was a resounding endorsement.
A "can-lah" in his dictionary probably meant "fabulous!" in somebody
else's.

Ah, so he thought it was a humdinger of a movie too. I needn't have
worried.

I hear Madhuri Dixit positively sparkles in the current epic doing
the cinema rounds, Aaja Nache. Anybody game for a song-and-dance?

ROBOT Tsunami is striking media!!!

Sify which reported that the project may be rumour as usual - later came up with an article confirming Robot.

It is also said in many newspapers the official announcement will be made in Sivaji 175 days function.

Almost all papers have comeout with ROBOT news in their editions for the past two days and today too.

ROBOT all set to occupy the headlines in coming days. No..no...it has already started occupying. I will upload the newspaper scannings later. But what i wanted to share is Maalai Murasu on 4/1/2008 came up with a FULL FRONT PAGE coverage on ROBOT stating that Superstar all set to act in one billion project. The paper as usual vanished from stands within first two hours of arrival. (This will uploaded once the project is confirmed officially)

Meanwhile again yesterday 5/1/2008 evening - Maalai Murasu carried a news stating that - "Engum Robot patriyae paechchu"

No official announcement. No press release. No inputs directly from Shankar. No byte from Superstar. All we got was a few line hints and bytes from producers to a FEW SELECTIVE media sources. But isn't this enough to trigger a Tsunami? Yes the ROBOT Tsunami is striking media thereby brushing aside all other movie news.

Just click the following link and read the Maalai Murasu 5/1/2008 scanning. I have highlighted the heading.

Struck by the ROBOT wave, don't ignore this Sivaji Tsunami which hit media on year end 2007.
Boss is No.1 of all
Almost all magazines and newspapers which featured Flash back of 2007 and also year end specials have unanimously selected Sivaji as the movie of the year and also pointed out that the Boss is No.1 of all both in collections and also in making news.
Swept awayby this wave
The negative talks which cropped up here and there –just because of jealous (vaitherichal) has been swept away by this wave at the year end. Surely it has pushed all vaitherichal parties spell bound.
In the following link we have uploaded all newspaper scannings which featured about Sivaji and its stupendous success.
A compilation of print media coverage
Please visit the following url and open each and every images and read that. For your ease we have highlighted the portion which speaks about Superstar and Sivaji in each scanning.
Particularly don't miss Dinamalar link which reads"Sivaji's world record" – in that they have mentioned that a Separate book on making of Sivaji with inputs from Superstar, Shankar and technicians is underway and to hit the stands soon.

Rajini and MGR , the most sought after...

Kollywood these days seems to be the bastion of remakes and remixes.
Adding to this recent trend, the usage of titles of old films have
come in vogue with a number of old film titles being registered at the
producer's council. Further to Polladhavan and Namnadu, and Selva's
Aayirathil Oruvan, there is a bevy of new films with old titles being
registered viz. Mullum Malarum, Saval, Pallandu Vazhga, Thee, Thillu
Mullu, Kaali, Idayakani, etc. An interesting observation is that most
of the titles have been either M G R's or super star's films. Reliable
sources in the industry reveal that there is a belief among film
makers that these titles of the popular stars are sure to bring in
success and hence the trend. This only goes on to reiterate the power
of these icons.

Siviji in Telugu Top10

Siviji is rated 4th in Telugu Top10 in 2007 by idlebrain.com.

4. Shivaji (15th June)

Rajni mania continued in the year 2007 as well when he teamed up with
Shankar for the first time and gave the hit film Shivaji. Shankar
developed another story based on his favorite subject of 'corruption'.
Rajni enacts the role of an NRI millionaire who returns to India to
help the poor people of India only to get duped by the local corrupt
kingpin. He returns back with a vengeance and robs the black money
from the rich and helps the poor. His mannerisms, style and his
imitation of the dances of NTR, ANR and Chiru were received very well
by the audience. Shriya got a chance to show her acting talent with
this move while Nayana Tara sizzed in an item song.
