Rajini and Kamal, two pillars of Tamil cinema

Actor Kamal Hassan is an actor who is always in the quest for a challenge and so playing just one role is not enough. Instead, he released in ten faces and the Kamal mania hit it's peak as the actor's fans celebrated the arrival of Dasavathaaram.

Kamal Hassan's fans went mad for the actors ten faces in his latest release, however, just one face of Rajinikanth in Sivaji was enough to send the crowds into a tail spin a year ago.

The filmy frenzy in Tamil Nadu was at it's peak when Rajinikanth's Sivaji hit the theaters.

"Rajinikanth is the stylist. He can bring life to even a dead film and Kamal Hassan is an actor who needs a strong script and powerful performances," says director, P Vasu.

Together Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan are known as the two pillars of Tamil cinema. Rajini is a complete entertainer, a super star who with his inimitable style sets the box office burning. In contrast, Kamal Hassan is the reclusive actor who's experiments and acting talents have won him awards and critical acclaim but not always box office success.

"To me, making a film is a holiday," says Kamal Hasan.

Unlike the rationalist Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth's holidays have often been in spiritual silence at Hrishikesh.

Rajini's super stardom has often moved beyond films to a cult following in real life and that following has always raised the question on whether he will play a real life political leader.

However, not too sure if he would enter politics, Rajinikanth says, "God only knows if I will enter politics."

The mass super stardom gave way to huge political success for MGR in Tamil Nadu and NT Rama Rao in Andhra Pradesh. The sheer brilliance of their acting gave eternal space to the legendary Sivaji Ganesan and now Kamal Hassan.

The two sets represent two different lenses for south Indian cinema, however, the fact is that both sides exist is a reminder that no matter how star struck south Indian cinema may be, there's always room for the real performer.

Rajni mania back in USA

There is something about Rajinikanth that attracts every one. Obviously, the actor's handsomeness and intense eyes will attract everyone. But these days, the Rajni mania is reaching great heights, like it did way back in 2000.

A few years ago, a famous pop artist in America wore a T-shirt in one of her videos with Rajinikanth's face on it. Pretty soon, in another hip-hop video, a dancer wore a T-shirt, again with Rajinikanth's face. Then it became a rage in the US, wearing T-shirts with some Hindi inscriptions or Gayatri Mantra.

Then came the style of wearing T-shirt depicting Hindu Gods, the most famous being Lord Ganesha. Now, the Rajinikanth T-shirt is back in America, just like Che Guevara T-shirts. Rajinikanth T-shirt is also famous in Japan; most of the T-shirts feature his eyes alone with the intent gaze that was seen in Basha.

Rajinikanth is so famous in Japan that he chose to include two Japanese characters in Baba. Not only in Japan and America, Rajinikanth's fame reached Europe too. In fact, about two years ago, a French movie, Prête-moi, which was showcased in Cannes, borrowed a few scenes from the Rajni hit Muthu.

These scenes appear in the film when the lead actress is shown watching them on TV and remarking to the visitor that she is watching Muthu, a must-see Indian movie.

We are lucky to have great icons like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. It will be wonderful if these two great actors act in a film together like Jackie Chan and Jet Li did recently in Forbidden Kingdom. The day they do it, Tamil Cinema will reach its summit.

Recently, the actor heaped praises upon Kamal Haasan after watching Dasavathaaram (also spelt as Dasavatharam) in a special screening. Stay on Galatta.com to know more about it.

Sivaji salutes Sarkar!

Superstar Rajinikanth rates Big B's latest performance as his finest ever

When Rajnikanth described Amitabh Bachchan as the true emperor of Indian cinema, he meant every word. The mutual admiration that the duo have for each other is well known and the Tamil superstar proved it again by asking for a special screening of Bachchan's latest film Sarkar Raj in Chennai.

The film reportedly impressed Rajni so much that he immediately called up the Big B and told him that this was his finest performance ever and that he is going to see the film once again purely for that.

Bachchan, touched by Rajini's gesture, said, "It feels nice when an actor like him compliments you."
Last year, when Rajini's film Sivaji had released, the South legend had flown to Mumbai to show the film to his friend. Although the two superstars have been compared for their huge popularity, they share a great relationship with each other.

Although the superstars have acted together only in a couple of films, directors have always shown interest in remaking movies of the stars. For instance, Amitabh's Don was remade in Tamil as Billa, which proved to be a milestone in Rajini's career.

Dasavatharam - Pre Release Analysis

Dasavatharam - Pre Release Analysis

Finally, here comes the magnum opus of the greatest Star Kamal Haasan. His dedication for films is inevitable and especially his hard work has landed him up over here to this peak. Dasavatharam, the film is ready hit the screens by tonight at few theatres and morning in others. Few hours left for the release and Kollywood Today brings you some of the exciting analysis of the movie comparing to the past of Kamal Haasan's previous films.

First, let us glimpse through the box-office collections for Kamal Haasan's films. Aascar Ravichandran with a bold attempt has released the film at 22 centres in Chennai alone in order to overbeat Sivaji. But, when it comes to comparison between Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan, it is superstar who always tops the chart.

Before couple of decades, Manithan and Nayagan released together. With no doubt, Nayagan won the accolades for the stunning performance of Kamal Haasan, but superstar had his turn to picking the collections. Similar scenario showed up when Guna and Thalapathy were released together. Never seen before performance from Kamal Haasan was critically acclaimed, but Rajnikanth was again there to easily go for the box-office collections while Kamal couldn't.

Though Michael Madhana Kama Rajan had Kamal Haasan playing 4 different roles, it was really a good entertainer where it was just not the show of Kamal alone. The film had equal and powerful characterizations drawn for Manorama, Oorvasi, Nagesh, Bheem Boy and many others. Panchu Arunachalam produced the movie and Seengitham Srinivasan directed it.

But Dasavatharam has 10 roles and for the running length of 2hrs 45mins, you are going to see only Kamal and Kamal. Be it action, romance, comedy or anything, its only Kamal who will be donning it.

Might be that is the reason why Kamal Haasan cleverly handed over the protocol of direction to KS Ravikumar. He is the director who can well handle such kind of scripts in an entertaining manner adding commercial elements.

Finally, we would like to mention about the childish plays of Aascar Ravichandran. Be it any theatre in Chennai, none of the counters opened booking from Friday. But all the audiences were completely disappointed to hear that booking are opening only from Monday. The fact is that Aascar Ravichandran himself has blocked all the tickets for the first 3 days in order to create hype for his film.

Aascar Ravichandran must understand its not a matter of creating hypes, but a good film made for the audiences will always have excellent results. Also it is noteworthy that some of the journalists and photographers who were there at the theatres early on Sunday morning to take a note on crowd lining up, it was a complete disappointment to see that there were no sufficient crowd.

Then, one of the managers for the theatre located at Central Chennai had his staffs getting in 100 people with more difficulty to pose in line for the photographs. At this moment, speaking on this, the same manager says that people flocked in crowd to book the tickets for Sivaji at around 2 in the morning…

So, Let's wait and see how does Aascar's technique works out. If the film clicks well at the box-office, it is not due to his works of gimmicks, but the hard work of Kamal Haasan and K.S. Ravikumar….

Kollywood Today wishes for the best success of Dasavatharam bring more light into Kollywood.

K.V. Anand Interview Extract

The fulfillment that got from shooting Thenmavin Kombatu, did you feel that way about Sivaji, too?

They are both different films. Thenmavin was a little realistic. I didn't have any pressure in that film. But Sivaji was loaded with expectation. I had to look at so many details. Is Rajini Sir looking okay, stylish, like an NRI? Rajini Sir was first priority. Before I started shooting for Sivaji, I thought this is so completely Shankar and the Superstar's film, that I'm hardly going to be noticed. But interestingly, after the movie came out, many people have now begun to refer to me as K.V. Anand, the man who shot Sivaji. In other words, this movie has brought me more fame and glory

Robot in trouble

The soon-to-release futuristic sci-fi Bollywood film Love Story 2050 under Harry Baweja's direction starring Priyanka Chopra, has put director Shankar in a dilemma.

Shankar is in the final stages of wrapping up the script of his sci-fi Tamil film Robot . The 120 crore budget film has Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. Rumours say that both Love Story 2050 and Robot have a similar storyline — that of man and machine (robots). In Love Story 2050, Boman Irani plays an eccentric scientist who invents a time machine. On this time machine, the lead pair Priyanka and Harman Baweja set forth on a journey to the year 2050. They land in futuristic Mumbai amidst flying cars, robots, Indian Ninjas, androids, and laser guns.

Sources reveal that there is kid version of the lead pair with X-box games and Priyanka is said to be accompa nied by a pet robot, a robotic bear with a blue mohawk.

Shankar is in a 'wait and watch' dilemma so that he can modify his screenplay if need be after Love Story 2050 is released.

Nayan's solo song in Kuselan

Nayanthara is on a song, as she is there in all the scenes featuring Rajinikanth in P.Vasu directed Kuselan.

Now as a bonus comes in a solo song being picturised on Nayan for the film at Ramoji Rao studio by director Vasu. The buzz is that this song is a nice feel-good number shot on Nayan and lot of kids.

Remember that in the original Malayalam film on which Kuselan is based, the character of Nayanthara comes in just one duet with the superstar. In the Tamil version, Nayan's character has been created by Vasu to add glamour and glitz to the film.

Vasu is a smart guy who knows how to package a Rajinikanth film for the masses. Rajinikanth said at the 'pooja' of the film, that he may occupy only 25 percent of the running time. But now it looks like he will be there for nearly 50 percent of the time!

Rajini delights fans

Kuselan, the Tamil remake of the Mammootty-Sreenivasan starrer Kathaparayumbol, created ripples among his fans on the very first day of the shooting schedule.

Relaxed, jovial and down to earth, Rajani was among his colleagues on the sets. Rajani arrived on Saturday evening for a four-day shooting schedule. He acted in the song sequence featuring him as a film star dancing with artistes on a houseboat.

Leading south Indian heroines Nayanthara and Meena and upcoming actor Mamtha are also in the movie. The megastar reached in time on the sets arranged on the banks of Punnamada lake on Sunday morning though he went to bed late on Saturday night after watching the IPL semifinals.

"He was bowled over by the beauty of the lake, while enjoying the taste varieties of Alappuzha like Karimeen pollichathu," production executive of the movie A Kabeer said. Cameraman of the movie Aravind Krishna suffered a slight injury on his leg during the shooting and he was taken to the Alappuzha MCH for treatment.

According to director Vasu, unlike Mammotty, who played a guest role in Kathaparyumbol, Rajani plays the role of a fulltime character as the story revolves around him.

'Kuselan': 'Barber' is now 'Bus Conductor?

While Malayalam hit 'Katha Parayumpol' gets changed into 'Kuselan' in
Tamil, a lot of things in the original are going to change in the remake.

The most important one, according to the latest reports, is that the
humble barber's role that Srinivasan played in 'Katha Parayumpol' will
now get changed into that of a bus conductor.

P.Vasu and Rajini fears that the barber's role may offend Tamil
population and hence the change.

`Kuselan' will give more screen space to Rajini than that Mammootty
had in the original.

The film will also feature five songs while the original just had two,
one filmed around Mammootty and other, a group song filmed around
Sreenivasan. Even though the basic storyline remains the same, the
Tamil version altogether will have a different look.

Rajini and P Vasu is taking even steps to inform Sreenivasan, about
every change that they are making in the scripts of the remake.

Sreenivasan on the other hand maintains that every changes made in the
script are justified as long as the plot remains intact.

Sanguine Media Forays into in-Film Advertising, completes assignment for Rajinikanth starrer "Kuselan"

Sanguine Media Ltd, a public limited Company, has now forayed into In-Film Advertising to provide more options to its clients & agencies for reaching their Target consumers. With more than 400 Films being produced in South India annually, Sanguine is very optimistic to scale new heights with this opportunity.

Sanguine has successfully completed an In-Film advertising assignment for 'Kuselan' a Tamil / Telugu film produced by M/s. Kavithalaya and Seven Arts starring Superstar Rajnikanth. This was quite challenging as Mr. Rajnikanth does not endorse any brands. The in-film avenues had to be worked out keeping this in mind.

The traditional method of displaying Brand Signages during a song or a fight sequence in a film is outdated. It Will be more effective if the brands are woven into the fabric of the film. This is more challenging as it needs expertise to blend the brand into the film keeping in focus the characters / scenes.

Brands & agencies are continually exploring various media options for mass & focused communication. Indian Film Industry with this enormous reach is one of the best platforms for the brands to reach their Target consumers in a sublime level at a relatively low cost.

D V Vinod, Managing Director, says "Sanguine's mission is to become an extended arm for brand managers and media agencies. In-film advertising will supplement our present business by giving more options to advertisers and will help film producers to generate revenues from alternative sources. This new extension of Sanguine will generate 30 - 50 INR-million revenue".

FIR on 'Kuselan' audio

The audio of Rajnikanth starrer 'Kuselan' set to tunes by young G V Prakash is ready. The album has five songs and the likes of Shankar Mahadevan, Udit Narayan, Sadhana Sargam amoong others have rendered their voice.

MGR, NTR, Sivaji thanthadhu intha cinemathan -  goes the opening song of Rajni, which is sung by Shankar Mahadevan.

Interestingly another song comprising the titles of Rajinikanth movies, penned by Vaali, features the actor in 20 different get-ups. Vaali has used the titles of Rajinikanth films including Pokkiri Raja, Rajadhi Raja, Polladhavan, Murattu Kaalai.
Also, Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam have sung a romantic duet shot on Rajinikanth and Nayantara.

A remake of Malayalam hit 'Katha Parayumbol', 'Kuselan' is directed by P Vasu. Pasupathy, Vadivelu, Meena and Sneha are also in the cast.

Kuselan – the missing singer!

Kuselan is gearing up for a July release and director Vasu is leaving no stones unturned to achieve the target date. The movie is expected to be successful on par with Anbulla Rajinikanth - the superstar starrer of the eighties where he played himself in which Meena also played a significant role.
Kuselan

The inevitable SPB who usually has a song credit in almost all Rajini movies will not be a part of Kuselan, however, the movie will have Rajini, Meena, Pasupathy, and Vadivel straining their vocal chords for a song.

Kuselan has a truckload of stars, big and small, since Rajini plays himself in the movie. Pasupathy plays the superstar's childhood school friend and has a meaty role.

Rajini's 20 avatars!

Rajini in twenty different getups! No, the Superstar is not competing with his counterpart and good friend Kamal Haasan. While Kamal is donning ten roles in Dasavatharam, Rajini, currently working with director P. Vasu for Kuselan, will appear in about twenty getups in a song. The star had already tried this in his film Baasha for the song Azhagu? Nee
Rajinikanth
Nadanthal?where he appears as a police constable, rowdy, bus conductor etc. But twenty different getups are really astounding. Now, isn't that yet another reason to watch Kuselan?

Rajini's new hairstyle in Robot!

The superstar is almost done with his part in Kuselan and is all set to sail towards his next magnum opus Robot. Expectations are skyrocketing as Rajinikanth, for the first time, will be starring opposite Ashwarya Rai. Made on a mega budget, Robot is a joint venture by Ayngaran International and Eros International.
Robot

According to industry sources, director Shankar and Rajini will fly down to the US to finalize the make-up for the latter. While Rajini's make-up in Sivaji came in for some rave reviews, Shankar wants Robot to be even better. It is said that Robot will feature a younger Rajini sporting a different hairstyle. Also, the Robot team intends to bring in professionals from Hollywood to work on Rajini's make-up.

Rajini's legacy continues

Rajinikanth has yet again proved that he is the King of Kollywood. His ‘Chandramukhi’ and ‘Sivaji’ went on to create all box office records, while expectations are very high on his ‘Kuselan’ to be released soon.
Meanwhile, a yesteryear hit of Rajinikanth ‘Baasha’, has been re-released considering his fame among the film-buffs.
The movie featured Rajinikanth in an action-packed role is directed by Suresh Krishna. Nagma, Raghuvaran and Devan among others form part of the movie.
A movie based on underworld in Mumbai, ‘Baasha’ is one of the biggest hits in Rajini's career and a trend-setting movie in Tamil cinema.
The movie re-released after 12 years is still drawing good crowds in over half-a-dozen screens where it is being screened.

Nostalgia: Superstar in Mudhalvan launch

You can see Manisha, Arjun, Superstar, Shankar, Kamal, KB, Rahman & Sujatha. Madhesh too (Director of Arasangam who was then Shankar's associate).

Shankar spoke in this event about his strenuous attempts to make Superstar to come for this launch. And he said that he will be grateful to him for that.

Rajinikanth is the boss, there's no doubt about it

It is perhaps befitting that when at last India's English-language media decides to go into overdrive over the release of a regional film, it does so for Shivaji: The Boss. Befitting, not because the film is in Tamil, but because it stars one of India's truly larger-than-life cinematic icons, Rajinikanth.
The unprecedented hype surrounding the film goes beyond Bollywood's wildest dreams and as the movie mandarins in Mumbai watch with their mouths agape the wave of excitement that has taken over the southern states and beyond, even the media has been forced to take note - and action.
So, the coverage begins with apologetic debates on comparing Bollywood's biggest star, Amitabh Bachchan, with Rajinikanth. The fans of Rajini, as he is fondly referred to, will tell you there is none.
And that's not because of the finances. Commanding Rs170 million per film, Rajini rakes in more than what two of Bollywood's best manage to take home. And it's not because of the marketing. While his contemporaries in the movie industry in other parts of India have entered the endorsement race, Rajini, the fans inform, never has and never will sign up for a commercial. And it's not because of the image. When he's not on-screen, Rajini remains true to his off-screen persona, often making him unrecognisable to those less familiar with the dynamics of Tamil cinema.
No comparisons, because their icon has never hinted at any rivalry with any of his colleagues. Nor has he entertained the trivial Bollywood versus others debates.
In creating his own brand and staying away from others, Rajinikanth has ensured that there is no comparison simply because from his point of view, there is no competition.
From his modest life as a bus conductor, Rajinikanth, whose real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, is not even originally from Tamil Nadu. The earlier part of his career saw him work on the so-called "off-beat" films that actors traditionally embark on after establishing themselves. So when the 50-something old is criticised for adopting a formulaic approach with a singular focus on entertainment, the reality is that Rajinikanth's experiments with roles and histrionic challenges came at a time when any actor with superstar ambitions would have been busy creating and cultivating an image.
At first watch, a typical Rajinikanth film might seem shallow, over-the-top, high on brand Rajini, and even low on intellect. But, to those seeking a genuine understanding of world cinema's various sensibilities, a genuine Rajinikanth experience is a must. His audiences are not the intelligentsia - although they are welcome and can even be spotted on many an occasion. His scripts may not necessarily be tight and well-crafted - although every time he delivers a thunderous dialogue, his viewers clap, whistle and whip up a frenzy in the front-row seats. He lights cigarettes with bullets. He flicks his hair and his enemies quiver. He shifts from slapstick to serious with ease within the same movie.
Deifying actors
It was the fans of Rajini, who created the trend of deifying actors. They quite literally, and honestly, worship him. His appeal extends to Japan among the Japanese community, where his face can be found on all sorts of memorabilia, as is revealed through a visit to www.rajinifans.com, one of the many websites dedicated to him. His on-screen magic has resulted in an unexplainable and mysterious power over Tamil Nadu's masses, where even an indirect comment from Rajinikanth can dictate electoral trends in the state's political scenario. From riding a bus, to Shivaji: The Boss, it's been an interesting journey for Rajinikanth, but a far more entertaining one for his fans.
As TV channels wonder whether he has wrongly been denied the status of an Indian superstar, they might want to take a large chunk of the blame.
In not questioning the self-anointment of the guys and dolls of the Hindi film industry as ambassadors of Indian cinema and always referring to the likes of Rajinikanth as regional superstars, it might be the right time to expedite a review of terms and choice of wording in their reports.

Anbumani affirms Chandramukhi & Sivaji were historical hits

Dr.Anbumani Ramadoss, Union Health Minister, is now receiving brick bats from Bollywood especially Big B for his repeated target on filmdom.

Anbumani has come-up with a self explaining article 'If the Health Minister can't do this, who can?' in The Hindu dated 11th May 2008. In that article he has said that Superstar's recent two films were historical hits. Whatever his intention may be, situation has pushed him to say so. God's great!! Ha...ha..ha...

I just paste that particular paragraph which speaks about Superstar.

//Creativity as an art should be used for improving lives instead of taking them. Today drinking is characterised as macho, youthfulness, and acceptability in elite social circles. Yes, India is growing economically – its social indices are showing an improvement. Let a small campaign and a little awareness give it a fillip. Tamil actor Rajnikant's two latest movies were smoke-free and both were the biggest hits in the history of the Indian film industry. I wish some of the celebrities could come forward to tell the people that a can of Pepsi/Coco-cola contains 5-7 spoonfuls of sugar and a packet of chips contains 500 calories, and also its adverse impact on the health of its users.//

http://www.hindu.com/2008/05/11/stories/2008051155081000.htm

Note1: I know this mere two line affirmation won't bring any soft-corner for Rajini fans towards him or his father. This is just an info sharing.

Note2: I just want to remind you that Ramadoss said during the launch of Chandramukhi that if there's Poorva Jenma Punniyam for Superstar, the film would become success.
It seems that Superstar has tonnes and tonnes of punniyam in savings. At the same time, Ramadoss & Co. account balance for punniyam is diminishing. (just think about Supreme court's verdict on AIIMS Venugopal case)

Kuselan Fever makes Oscar Ravi jittery

Sify has published today a news story on the release of
Dasavataram. In that news, the producer Oscar Ravi has
unnecessarily taunted Kuselan but it only goes to show HOW
FREIGHTENED HE IS ABOUT KUSELAN.

While explaining the reason for the continuous postponement & delay
in Dasa's release, Oscar Ravi has said "Please note this is not a
film that can be wrapped up in 50 days with two songs shot in
Pollachi and then trying to keep to a deadline."

I am sure the word "POllachi" has been deliberately used by Oscar
Ravi to distinguish his film & to convey the message to the readers
that Dasa is not an ordinary film like Kuselan, which has been
recently shot in Pollachi.

I can hear the protests from some of our members saying its not
Kuselan alone which was shot in Pollachi.

Even though couple of other people's movies were also being made in
Pollachi area, it was only after Thalaivar went for the two day
shooting of Kuselan to Pollachi/Udumalpet areas, the whole media
started publishing stories about the shooting etc. Once the
shooting of Thalaivar got over, the news about Pollachi also stopped
coming in all the media even though P.Vasu continued to shoot other
scenes in Pollachi area invloving all other actors. That is the
Power of Thalaivar & that is what is irking Oscar Ravi.

The other irritating news (for Oscar Ravi) regarding Kuselan is its
business. Without any fanfare, its distribution rights have been
bagged by Pyramid group for Rs. 65 crores.

I have no objection if he had simply said since Dasa is not a simple
story with 2 songs, 2 fights etc. which can be wrapped up in less
than 2 months or so. But, what is the reason for Oscar Ravi to
say "this is not a film that can be wrapped up in 50 days with two
songs shot in Pollachi" except that HE IS NOT COMFORTABLE THAT
RAJINI'S KUSELAN IS QUICKLY GETTING WRAPPED UP & MAY POSE A REAL
THREAT TO DASA IF IT CAN RELEASE IN JULY.

The article also mentions that Oscar himself is going to release
Dasa which shows THERE ARE NO TAKERS FOR HIS FILM AT THE RATE QUOTED
BY HIM. That shows how much confidence the disti community has got
for his film IN SPITE OF HUGE MOENY SPENT ON ITS PROMOTION &
TRAILERS.

Oscar Ravi's Kuselan fever is due to the fact that if Dasa releases
in June & Kuselan in July, even assuming Dasa becomes a hit, it
can't sustain its collection after a month or so since the day
Kuselan gets released, whole crowd will go there forgetting 10 or
even 100 avatarams. Since no distributor wants to release Dasa
forcing Oscar Ravi himself to release it, the reduction or stoppage
in Dasa's collection will affect Oscar Ravi directly & tellingly.

My simple question to Oscar Ravi is "When you can spend Rs. 60
crores to produce your movie & another 20 crores to promote the
same, why are you getting jealous about THE POOREST OF THE POOR -
KUSELAN? Because you know within your heart that it is NOT THE
MONEY SPENT WHICH WILL BRING AUDIENCE TO THEATRES. It is the
CHARISMA of the STAR WHICH WILL MAKE PEOPLE TO FLOCK TO THEATRES &
make the movie the BIGGEST HIT.

I am amused to see Oscar Ravi's jealousy. Here is a man who has
invested Rs. 60 crores to produce a movie by working labouriously
for over 2 years and which is yet to get completed. On top of it,
he had to spend several more crores to bring some other "actors" to
promote a 10 role make-up extravaganza in order to make people aware
that there is a movie called "Dasavataram". But, still there are no
takers from the distribution community to buy his movie at the price
quoted by him.

While the above is happening, he is incredulously watching the FREE
PUBLICITY RAJINI'S KUSELAN IS GETTING in all the media for its
shooting in Pollachi area just because Rajini is attending the shoot
& that too for just 2 days. To add salt to the wound, without any
publicity or fanfare, Kuselan rights has been fiercely fought for by
top corporates & won by a big theatre chain group for an
astronomical amount.

Friends, now tell me, Who will not get Vayitherichal? After all,
Oscar Ravi is also a human being. He is naturally feeling it. That
feeling is coming out in different forms. First it was by NOT
inviting Rajini to the audio function (by rightly thinking that
Rajini's presence will take away the thunder from Kamal & Dasa).
Now by comparing his Dasa with Kuselan and trying to "Mattam
Thattufy" Kuselan.

I can finally say one thing to Oscar Ravi. This is not going to be
the end of your Vayitherichal. As Kuselan's release nears, your
irritatiopn points also will increase manifold & its going to haunt
you forever.

With Luv,

Arun

Banu back in Kuselan; Takes care of Superstar's look!

When the first set of Sivaji stills leaked in net during 2006, our fans almost jumped out of joy by seeing a handsome and youthful Rajini. From that instance, the hype of Sivaji started raising and finally it rested only when the movie hit the screens and turned mega blockbuster. Rest is the history.

Banu back in Kuselan too
How can we forget Banu, the make-up woman worked in Sivaji who
was responsible a dashing and debonair looking Superstar? It is she who woven the magic. She brought back our Superstar so young which stunned all of us. Superstar too specially thanked her in Sivaji 175 days function for her awesome job. Now the lady is back in Kuselan too. And it is 200% true. She's the touch up artiste for Superstar in the movie and they say Superstar is much more stylish than we saw in Sivaji. What more shall we ask for?

Can u see her touch in Kuselan?
Herewith we have placed a latest pic of Superstar in an audio release event which held in Chennai last week. He attended the event on a holiday from Kuselan schedule. If you closely observe the below image of Superstar you can see the touch of Banu. She will continue the good work in Robot too.

Our hearty thanks to Banu for her amazing work in Sivaji. And congratulations for making in Kuselan team too.

Kuselan proves Rajini is Kuberan

Rajinikanth's P Vasu directed Kuselan has been purchased for a whopping Rs 60 crore by Pyramid Saimira, according to trade reports.

It is the biggest deal in south Indian cinema in recent times and Pyramid Saimira Group Chairman P S Saminathan confirmed to Chennai Times that the group had bought all the rights of the film.

He, however, politely declined to confirm the price at which the deal had been struck. According to reports, there was a bidding war for the rights of the film which is a remake of the Malayalam super hit Katha Parayumbol and focusses on the bond between a superstar and a village barber who were childhood buddies.

Rajinikanth plays the role of the superstar made memorable by Mammootty in the original, while Pasupathy dons the barber's role.

Rajinikanth is doing an "extended cameo" as the story has been re-written by Vasu to suit the image of the Superstar.

He will appear along with Nayantara in two songs and many more scenes as the producers Kavithalaya wanted to market it as a Rajinikanth film.

Kavithalaya is the production company of Rajinikanth's guru and mentor K Balachander who is making it in association with Seven Arts’ Vijayakumar, who made the original in Malayalam.

There was a virtual bidding war between Pyramid Saimira and a Mumbai-based corporate for the rights of the film. The market is amazed that Kuselan in which Rajinikanth is making only a special appearance could fetch such a price.

Commenting on the huge deal, Saminathan said, "Rajini is India's Number one star, both in terms of popularity and in terms of the collections index. His market stretches across many countries and his opening is the biggest compared to any other star. He has a solid fan base and is the only hero who can count children, women, men, and teen as his audience. He is the only hero with class as well as mass appeal."

Throwing light on the marketing strategy they will implement for this film, he said, " We will market the film with proper carry, befitting the hero and opening. We will do a proper controlled release and also have multiple revenue streams."

If a "guest appearance" garners Rs 60 crore, imagine the price a full length Rajinikanth film like Robot can fetch in the open market.

Kuselan Sold Out; Creates Record in Sales!!

SundarJi has given a Soooooper Dooooper News regarding Kuselan's
business. When such a news comes in Daily Thanthi and thru Super
Sundar, it has to be undisputable - is it not?

Rest assured, this splendid achievement of Kuselan is UNIQUE and
will remain as the Benchmark till 2010, when Robot's sales will beat
it.

Following reasons make this a Unique record by Kuselan:

1. Rajini has only 25% screen presence in Kuselan as against a
normal 100% presence required for a Hero in any movie (for some
others even 10 roles may not be sufficient to fetch such a price
from the market).
2. First movie for which COMPETITIVE BIDDING was invited from Big
Corporate Houses to decide the BEST DISTRIBUTION PRICE.
3. If we take Sivaji's record of first level disti rights (i.e.
revenue earned by AVM Productions when they sold Sivaji to
distis/theatres directly), it is mentioned that AVM collected around
Rs. 100 to Rs. 110 Crores. Mind you, this figure includes other
rights like audio, DVD, satellite TV, etc. Kuselan, with only 25%
screen presence of Thalaivar, should have raked in only around Rs.
25 to Rs. 30 crores, based on Sivaji's revenue figures. But, it has
garnered MORE THAN DOUBLE THIS FIGURE (Rs. 65 Crore).
4. From another report posted in our forum/site, this Rs. 65 crore
paid by Pyramid Saimeera is only for disti rights in India.
Overseas rights seem to have been bagged by Ayngaran Intl. for
another Rs. 40 Crores. If that be the case, then my conclusion in
point No. 3 above, goes for a toss. Kuselan THEN EQUALS SIVAJI IN
DISTRIBUTION SALES.

WHAT A FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT BY THALAIVAR!!!

5. Kuselan's producers i.e. KB's Kavithaalaya DID NOT PLEAD WITH
BUYERS TO GIVE THEM RS. 1 MORE THAN SIVAJI in order to satisfy their
self-ego that their movie has beaten Sivaji in financial
sweepstakes. On the contrary, even as the first shooting schdule is
in progress (about 40% of the movie only has been canned as per P.
Vasu), the business of Kuselan has ATTRACTED TOP CORPORATE HOUSES
who came on their own offering huge sums for bagging the disti
rights because its a Rajini movie.

6. Let us look at things in prespective while comparing Kuselan
with Sivaji.

For Sivaji, there were at least an album of stills for disti's like
Abirami Ramanathan to go thru & then buy it at record prices. Then
Rajini was all over Sivaji as Hero along with its USP of Shankar at
the helm with ARR as MD.

For Kuselan, none of the above is applicable. P.Vasu can't be
equated in the same league as Shanakar, though he gave one of the
biggest block busters in Tamil Cinema with Thalaivar in CM.
Thalaivar himself will not be coming throughout Kuselan but only for
about 25% of the time. There is NO A.R.Rahman but only his nephew &
upcoming MD, G.V. Prakash.

In spite of so many supposedly drawbacks stated above which are
supposed to make Kuselan sell at a lower figure than Sivaji, Kuselan
has commanded huge business interest and that too NOT from small
timers or black marketeers but from respected & reputed corporated
houses. THIS KIND OF BUSINESS FOR KESELAN EQUALLING SIVAJI IS
POSSIBLE ONLY BECAUSE OF ONE MAN - RAJINI, RAJINI & RAJINI and
nothing else.

Everyone in the industry & film business knows that the name Rajini
SELLS. So, they all know that even if Rajini comes only for a
relatively less screen time than normal, they are confident that
Rajini's mere screen presence is more than enough to ATTRACT MASSES
TO THE THEATRES. For Rajini movies, Masses nowadays mean, not only
from TN or South India or North India but ALL OVER THE GLOBE.

THAT IS WHAT MAKES RAJINI'S FILMS SELL LIKE REAL HOT CAKES. As soon
as KB opened Kuselan's business, it sold off immediately. Like a
bakery, as soon as they bring the freshly baked cake onto the show
room, immediately people will grab it & releish it by eating. Only
difference is, a cake has to be definitely baked & be fresh & hot.
For a Rajini movie, a mere announcement about the project is enough
for distis to come & wait for the business negotiations to start.
They know it will be good & will attract masses because Rajini is
there.

So, the bottomline is when it is Rajini, then there is no need for
watching the full movie or doing a huge promo to attract buyers or
silent pleading with buyers to purchase.

7. When other "actors" are SPENDING CRORES & BRINGING OTHER STARS
TO PROMOTE THEIR MOVIES, Kuselan is EARNING RECORD REVENUES SILENTLY
ON RAJNI'S NAME ALONE. We all should feel proud that a Rajini movie
is SOLD OR PROMOTED based on Rajini only & Rajini never tries to
bask in the reflected glory from other Stars. Kuselan has proved
this yet again.

8. When other "actors" are frantically trying to catch up with
Sivaji at the BO (which they will never be able to do), Kuselan
seems to have already set a NEW BENCHMARK for Robot to follow. Yes
Friends, it will only be Thalaivar's Robot which will break
Kuselan's record whereas all others will be puffing with panting in
trying to catch up with Sivaji.

9. Last but not the least, it is not yet clear whether the above
rights include audio, DVD, etc. In all probability the answer is
NO. In such a case, the revenue from audio, DVD, satellite TV &
other rights will make Kuselan, TAMIL INDUSTRY'S ENVY (only
Vayatherichal Parties are there) but RAJINI FANS' PRIDE.

With Luv,

Arun

Ragava Larencce choreographs Rajinikanth

Ragava Larencce is a rare film personality with multi-talents. A great admirer of 'Super Star ' Rajinikanth, Larencce has choreographed a song for his mentor (Rajinikanth) for `Kuselan'. The song was shot recently in Ramoji Rao Film Studio in Hyderabad.

Choreographer-actor-director Ragava Larencce is thrilled to work with Rajinikanth. Currently playing the title role in `Pandi' opposite Sneha and Namitha, Larencce has come up with some catchy movements for Rajinikanth, which would be admired by his fans.

`Kuselan', directed by P Vasu, features Rajinikanth, Pasupathy, Namitha and Meena in lead roles.

A remake of Malayalam hit `Katha Parayumbol', the movie is fast shaping up in Hyderabad.

Rajini - Kamal friendship in shambles?

Media has started cooking its own story regarding Rajini-Kamal's friendship now. Rajini's absence in Dasavatharam audio launch has triggered such thoughts.

There's no necessity for Rajini to be present in each and every function of Kamal's and also there's no need for Kamal too to be present in all of our function. If they both were presented in a function, that was due to the director or producer's thick relationship both stars. Superstar knows which one to attend and which one to skip

1) Superstar would have decided to stay away just because he didn't want to steal the limelight and deviate the function's cause. The function was for Dasavatharam and to promote the film and hero. If he participates, whenever Superstar name is uttered he may get thunderous applause (this happened in Aalavandhan audio release, where general audience went crazy when a few scenes from Baasha was shown there in the stage. Clippings from Suresh Krishna's movies were shown) and this may annoy other VIPs there. (Already Kamal was pushed next to Jackie Chan) Moreover, according to hearsays there's no good rapport between Rajini and Oscar Ravichandran. So, there are 1000 reasons for Superstar to skip the function. This should not be linked with his friendship with Kamal.

2) Since Kalaignar participated in the function, he might have skipped. Wondering? Yes. True.
Rajini used to keep away from those who rule the state always and he is very choosy to share the stage with them. He has said this some years back in a felicitation ceremony of SP Balasubramanian which was held in Music Academy Chennai. In that event, he said that he wanted to skip the event as the then Chief Minister Kalaignar was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. He also quoted the Thirukural which taught that one should not get too close to the king.

In Aachi Manorama felicitation too (which was held just after a couple days of Sivaji 175 days function) where Kalaignar was the Chief Guest, Superstar attended just because he preferred over the other function where he was supposed to attend that evening. (Tuglak annual function, where Modi was the Chief Guest)

3) Moreover, he has allotted weekend to watch 20/20 in Chennai and he didn't want to take off from Kuselan shoot in Friday. Already the schedule was disrupted because of Nayantara's collapse on the sets. He had to finish the song sequence.

Why there will be no split?

1)There are countless VVIPs who are yearning to have friendship with Superstar - if not atleast a formal chat with him. So nobody in earth would like to break the bond with him. If only Rajini decides to break away from a person - there will be such chances. But the respect and passion Rajini having with Kamal is incomparable. So, there's no such a probability.

2) In the past too we heard such 'Rajini-Kamal split' stories many times and they turned false.

Note1: You may ask "What about Sathyraj who wantedly went against Superstar?" - For us he is not in the FRIENDS list of Superstar and he is unfit for that. Actually he was in the list of "Stomach burning parties". Time will teach Sathyaraj what a big unpardonable blunder he has done.

Note2: Those who want some laugher riots regarding yesterday's audio launch are requested to read the following news from today's Times of India where it says that Jackie Chan threw some unintentional tantrums in Chennai hotel. And it reads that at one extent he asked, "Who is Bachchan? I don't know who is he!". Really funny. Ha..ha...ha.... http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India_Buzz/Jackie_picky_Chan/articleshow/2982888.cms

Rajini Chan - singing Tamil song

Proud to be thalaivar fans

Hi All!!!!

I am an off and on writer to this group but daily i keep all the details posted. I was really amazed, shocked and humiliated after hearing actor Satyaraj speech during the protest against Karnataka. Sorry for posting this topic quite late as this issue have taken place some weeks back but it is never too late to express our feelings and thoughts. Being a Malaysian settled in Singapore, I am sad to see my fellow friends fighting for their rights there and still there are not much changes there. But it is not the same as what is happening now here in Tamilnadu. I am so shamed to be called Indian, originating from a country which is known of its multi language and culture which once i was  proud of. Now the question is why are we fighting among our own self, it is not Tamilnadu or Karnataka, but Indians among Indians. Why are we talking and taking step to stop Pakistan war of terror when our own people have no unity ,peace and love among each other. This will be an advantage to the others .Now it starts from water, then the matter will grow to  something else, perhaps race, culture. Oh god.guys, we have to stop all this..sorry to say this  but have a look at china, they are also having multi language and culture, However  they are all united, if u see them , they support each other especially in business, they never give chance for others to have piority as they always give privallage for their own race which I feel it is good, and  they are the one who succeed in whatever field they are compared to us, unfortunately we, Indians are always trying to step each others back, creating more issues and look like we are not united at all in anyway. I am not telling all Indians are like this or bad but majority of them,  north looking down on south, south and south are fighting and name it, in anything we are not in common. It is something to think about . There are no one giving proper solution for any issue nor listening to any party and to resolve this matter wisely. Looking at this, i wonder how can India will become the leader in the future. What is the use creating more Ambani's or Mittals . What are we doing as individual? Where are we now compare to other leading countries?

Coming to Mr.Satyaraj speech on the rally, it was seriously very humiliating and began to provoke my anger when he was talking and pointing some points about our idol, Rajinikanth sir. He was not thinking that not only Tamilnadu is seeing him live there but the entire world. Beside that, the language that he used was very very vulgar,no sense and as if  he is humiliating his own wife and family. A actor is seen and known as an idol to many fans especially the young ones, the way they are in the professional field and  in person but this man was giving a  very wrong  and bad example to many fans out there. The anger that he had showed, the language and message he gave was not really from a wise man, he behaved like a street person. I assume that a street person will know a bit more manners compared to him. One thing for sure, We are proud that our Thalaiver who sat there, had no comments on this and listened very humbly to this crap speech even this crazy man was talking about him. Rajinikanth Sir  told wisely about this issue and also a million thanks to his buddy Kamalhassan sir who commented very smartly pertaining to the matter spoken.

Look like now we have to make our  Thalaiver to pull the trigger and enter politic soon and change, at least try to change all the holes in the country especially the people. He is the real man who can reform India and that is why many are attacking him now, saying so many things which is not true and only trying to make money and fame out of this, but there are no one whom are thinking about the country , and its future.

Hope that this problem get solved without any issue and bring happiness to all the people in india especially tamilnadu and karataka.

Bruce Lee + Jackie Chan + MGR = Superstar. Who said this?

Superstar has seen everything in life. What he ignored as "enough....enough" is now being enjoyed by others as rarity.

No other stars faced blunt crticisims like him and also immersed in showers of praises like him. But all are same for him. He sees no difference between praising and scolding.

This FULL PAGE ad appeared in Daily Thanthi during the year 1999 and look who has given the ad. I think i don't need to reveal the reasons for giving ads like this that time. But it needs wit and wisdom for a person to slip away from the such act of gratifications.

Kuselan tidings : Three songs completed

Bhangra king to croon for Boss

Well known Punjabi bhangra pop singer Daler Mehndi will be lending his voice for superstar Rajinikanth in Kuselan. The movie is a remake of the popular Malayalam film Kadha parayumbol. This is the first time Daler, the king of Indian bhangra pop, will sing for a south Indian film. Young music composer G.V.Prakash managed to rope in the Punjabi singer for a duet, which will be filmed on Rajinikanth and Nayanthara at the film city in Hyderabad. Apparently, the producers of the movie have paid Daler a whopping amount. Kavitha Krishnamoorthy will sing with him.

Kuselan will be a milestone in the career of GV Prakash

Talking to this newspaper Prakash said, “I have known Daler for quite sometime now. For this particular tune, which is set in rap and folk style, I wanted to try out a new voice for Rajini sir and that’s how I thought of Daler. Despite his busy schedule, he has agreed to sing for us and it will be recorded in Delhi on Monday.” Three songs by Prakash have already been shot. The director, P. Vasu is very happy about the outcome and has complimented the composer saying that this will be a milestone film in his career.

Bharathiraja Speaks About Rajini
